Colt Brinkerhoff Race Report: Australian Finke Desert Race

2015 Australian Tatts Finke Desert Race, Alice Springs, Australia

This race became a BIG undertaking for me, with making the decision to go race and have an epic vacation with my now, fiancée Rachel, it was going to take a lot of preparation to do this. I started by contacting the owner of The Quad Squad Australia, Adam Siemensma to see if I could use his quad for Finke. He obliged and the work began. I started to fund raise by giveaways from my awesome sponsors, gofundme page, selling advertising space on my t-shirts, selling the t-shirts, and by helping my parents sell their condo to make the rest of the cash. I sent my suspension, wheels/tires, gear and a camping setup for Rachel and I to Australia. Thanks to Fasst Company for helping me get it shipped away. I employed my now friend, Cade Cowdin (owner of Official Strength in St. George), to help me get the physical and mental strength to 100%. It was literally a transformation for me; I have never been that mobile, fast, powerful and strong in my life. I knew in my mind that no one was working harder in the gym than me and I know it would translate when it got tough out there. Sam at Dirt Fiend Racing brought back the popular “Tank” graphics kit to represent America. I was ready to get down to the Outback mate!  I have to thank everyone that helped me get to this race and fulfill a dream. You don’t know how much it meant to me to try to win and represent for the USA!

Tyler Nelson Albany Race Report

Rounds 5 and 6 of Quadcross Northwest at Albany MX are in the books and they did not disappoint!IMG_4235 I had the trailer loaded up early in the week and we took off Friday afternoon to get some good seats to watch the Portland traffic! After a six plus hour drive on what should have been four, we pulled in and set up camp. I saw some new faces as well as some old faces that decided to dust off the boots and get back at it. Oh, and I met some guy named Joe Byrd. He is a big deal or something.

Ruby Davis Race Report

qxnw-rubyHad an amazing first and second round put on by the great Quadcross Northwest at a beautiful location. Horn Rapids is known for its Sandy whoops and gnarly track conditions. But the weekend was amazing with nice warm weather and sunny conditions with very little wind. Keeping the track moist and perfect for all motos.

Coming into the first round I was definitely nervous even though in October we went south to Texas and ran with faster guys I couldn’t help but feel I wasn’t as prepared as I wanted to be for the first round. With little riding in the off season due to weather conditions and long work hours it made it very difficult to prep myself for the opening weekend.

Quadcross Northwest Rounds 1 and 2

Quadcross Northwest returned to Horn Rapids Motorsports Complex April 25th and 26th for the opening rounds. Beautiful weather on both days helped to highlight amazing racing and one of the biggest Pro gates the series has seen since it’s inception. Several large classes of riders took on the sandy mix, but only  a few came out on the box! Fast rising Pro athlete Ruby Davis took 4 holeshots and 4 moto wins, while Jace Johnson put on a great effort to catch him.

qxnw9The first two rounds of Quadcross Northwest took place in Richland, Washington at Horn Rapids. The fourth year the series has raced there, the track had undergone a few changes to the layout, giving racers familiar and new challenges. The Pro qualifier took place in the morning during what would have been second practice for the Pros. Ruby Davis turned the fastest lap of the weekend with a 1:30 and change. This would be telltale of the weekend’s events.

Rain Rain Go Away – Race Report from UGMX

Rain rain go away 2nd moto wants a sunny day! Round 2 of the ATV Nationals at Underground MX in Kemp, TX brought us a over night storm between motos 1 and 2 yet again. This time the motos continued as planned, with only a short 15 min delay due to some track clean off.

I’m not butt hurt about the rain though. No, I am literally butt hurt from a get off I had about a week and half prior to this round, that landed me square on my booty. Due to some spider fractures and torn muscles, this race report will only cover the guys in my life. They’re the real talent anyway, right?

This was the first time the ATV Nationals had been back to Texas in many years. With a lot of promotion from the local series TQRA and LSQR, there where around 530 entries! With those numbers, Saturday’s moto 1 races had a hand full of classes with enough entries to require qualifying heats. Both Phil and Kellen had to run heat races to qualify for moto 2.

Kellen, with a dead last start into the first turn, quickly made 6 passes before the first lap, and pulled a 2nd in his heat race for the 70 Auto class. Next day on moto 2 he was, once again, last going into turn one. He brought himself up from 16th to 8th in lap one, gained some ground and made a pass for 7th on lap 3, and had a exciting finish as he nearly passes for 6th in the whoops at the finish line. 4th overall in the 70 Auto, and he’s learning that hole shots really make a difference. He can’t wait and pick everyone off like he is use to when racing with the best of the best.

Spokane, WA – After a crash last year at Washougal for the final rounds of Quadcross Northwest left Trevor Oestreich with news of a heart condition previously undiagnosed, Trevor was expected to never be able to do physical activities again. After extensive doctor visits and finally flying to New Jersey to see a specialist, Trevor Oestreich has been cleared to race the opening rounds of Quadcross Northwest next weekend. “I am very happy,” Trevor said by phone, “Especially going from zero racing last year to some riding and now getting back to racing! I just have to take it easier than before.” For Trevor, that means dropping down from the ProAm class and just competing in the Production A class.

Williams/Oppen Race Report AMA Rd 1

FullSizeRender
Home to Lizella, GA

On Wednesday, March 18th, around 6pm, we got the word that we had a donation for the fuel to get us from Portland, OR to the first round of the AMA ATV Motocross Championship in Lizella, GA. We scrambled to load up, headed out of the driveway at 10pm, and made it to the track in Georgia early Saturday morning the day of racing. We were all tired from the non stop driving (except gas and potty breaks) for 56 hrs.

That whole morning was RUSH RUSH RUSH to sign up, get transponders, find out when our practice was, unload the bikes, get geared up, and hustle over to our THREE lap practice. Apprently that is all you get on Saturday, and Sunday you get two laps. The track is a sand track so by practice #3 the track was already extremely beat up with ruts swing arm deep. The minis could hardly make it through the things. They even had to do bits of track work before each of the mini motos.

Colt Brinkerhoff AMA National Hare and Hound Race Report Round 2

AMA National Hare and Hound Association Round 2 Checkers 2015

Barstow, CA 2/22/2015- Man, I was excited to see this new venue, only racing NHHA for a few years; I never had the chance to race in Barstow. It hosts some of the gnarliest terrain on the west coast with multiple “SCORE” roads, very rocky and not a lot of places to pass on the virgin parts of the course. I had the “Rat Rod” prepped and ready for battle in the high California desert. I had the engine redone after the first race along with changing my Elka Suspension around a bit. The quad was amazing!  As a Massachusetts native would say “My Moto Xperts/Hot Cams/Hot Rod/Cylinder Works/Vertex Piston TRX engine is a rippa!” I also, have to thank Jay at Impact Solutions for dialing in my Elkas, they worked really hard for me to make them the best they can be. Did some shock tuning with Alex and James Ortiz out at their house had a lot of laughs and got my quad working great.

I ended up driving down by myself to pick up some race fuel from RSI and my main man Jay Young of Team True Racing delivering it to Skyler and I. That was a huge help to both of our programs so thanks to them. I had to stop several times on the way as I was having some stomach issues early on, I felt like Harry Dunn (Dumb and Dumber) when Lloyd pours him some “superlax”….Haha! I had finally made it to the race site and settled in. My girlfriend
Rachel and her dad showed up shortly after. We got everything ready and rode a couple times to give the quads a shake down. I did some minor changes to the shocks and they were better than ever. I was Dungey pumped!

 Race Day:
