Williams/Oppen Race Report AMA Rd 1

Home to Lizella, GA

On Wednesday, March 18th, around 6pm, we got the word that we had a donation for the fuel to get us from Portland, OR to the first round of the AMA ATV Motocross Championship in Lizella, GA. We scrambled to load up, headed out of the driveway at 10pm, and made it to the track in Georgia early Saturday morning the day of racing. We were all tired from the non stop driving (except gas and potty breaks) for 56 hrs.

That whole morning was RUSH RUSH RUSH to sign up, get transponders, find out when our practice was, unload the bikes, get geared up, and hustle over to our THREE lap practice. Apprently that is all you get on Saturday, and Sunday you get two laps. The track is a sand track so by practice #3 the track was already extremely beat up with ruts swing arm deep. The minis could hardly make it through the things. They even had to do bits of track work before each of the mini motos.

Vigilant Vet Racing – Race Report for Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2014 GNCC Season

Some of you may read this report and wonder who we are and why a group of mostly “C” riders spend their time and money in the highly competitive world of the GNCC. However, take a peek into life at the new Veteran’s Pit Stop and the not-so-obvious story there quickly overshadows all the awards and podium celebrations we could imagine.

WORCS_2014_Havasu_Donna-EllsworthLas Vegas, Nevada 3/24/14 Goldspeed Racing Products returned to the top of the podium last weekend as reigning ATVA champion Chad Wienen secured his first win of the season.  Wienen and the entire Wienen Motorsports race team have elected to compete aboard the Goldspeed aluminum race wheel for the second year in a row.  2 time champion Chad Wienen came out swinging, taking the fastest qualifier award as well as the moto one win ahead of a talented and hungry field of racers.  In moto two, Wienen trailed John Natalie who ripped a holeshot and carried the lead for the entire race.  Wienen’s 1-2 finishes were good enough to give him the overall and allow him to keep the coveted red plate going into round two.  Fellow Wienen Motorsports/Goldspeed/FMF rider Thomas Brown managed a 5-5 finish to give him a top five spot for the weekend.

On the west coast, WORCS racers managed to overcome the brutal conditions of the Lake Havasu race course to earn multiple podiums at the third round of the World Offroad Championship Series. Despite a historically rough course, record attendance meant that racers would have to be on top of their game to survive the conditions as well as the competition.

SBR GNCC Round 2 Race Report

IMG_0319Washington, GA ~ Well that was fast!  After a very short 6 day break, we find ourselves right back in the woods for some GNCC racing!  This time we leave the sand of Florida behind and head about 6 hours north to the famous Aonia Pass Motocross Park and the red Georgia clay.  A staple of the GNCC tour since 2003, this track is sure to give you a taste of what the rest of the schedule looks like with tight woods, deep ruts, exposed roots, and and all around rough conditions.  If you pushed a little too hard in Florida last week, I’m sure your feeling it now.
Starting off with our morning riders we have the #414 of Colton White who unfortunately fell victim to mechanical failure when his quad lost 2nd gear on lap 2.  Making the decision to hang it up before any further damage was done knocked him back into the 6th position for the day.  16-18C rider Daniel Gwinn started off strong putting the Wiseco Pistons backed Suzuki with the front of the pack, but a failing tie rod end would force him to settle on the 7th position.  The United Cycle Honda with Silver Masters 55+ rider Donnie Pruett on the bars ended his day with another 2nd place finish.  And to round off the morning classes we saw the return of #821 Jason Gautier with the 35+C class.  After getting the first race jitters out of the way, Jason made a steady climb each lap and ended in the 9th position.
