The 3rd Annual Haunted MX for Kids was a great success among everyone involved. Saturday October 23rd, 35 kids and their families gathered at the Hubby Racing Training Facility in Roy, Washington to have a fun-filled day of riding, candy, and scares! South Sound & South Bound Honda were nice enough to come out with new Honda 150F and CRF450R dirtbikes, and a large tent which was welcome cover from scattered showers throughout the day. Many sponsors donated certificates, apparel, bike and quad parts, safety gear (including a new EVS neck brace), gift cards, food, stickers and other goodies for the kids. Each student also came home with an official HMX participation certificate and medal. This year’s medal was a “Jack-o-sprocket” – a 14 tooth counter shaft sprocket with a jack-o-lantern face cut out of it on a black and orange ribbon. If you didn’t enroll your son or daughter in this year’s Haunted MX you should get a jump start on next year!
After the MX clinics and free riding were over and the sun began to go down, out came the kids in costumes and the adult ring-toss. Generous sponsors donated a case of motor oil, a complete car washing kit, and some other items for the adults to win. It’s a tough game using a pointed black witches’ hats and glow rings. The hats are almost invisible in the near-darkness! The kids donned everything from Transformers, to ninjas, to dragons, to bananas (yes there was a banana), to witch and Snow White costumes! While they finished eating candy and playing with the glow sticks from the ring toss, the haunted house was finishing preparations.
Hannibal Lector, an unknown zombie, a vampire, a twisted nurse and doctor sawing off a poor woman’s leg, a mysterious red-eyed woman, and the crowd favorite (gauged by the number of kids crying) the CHAINSAW KILLER all took their places within the house, awaiting poor kids and their parents. Some kids didn’t make it all the way through, some were chased out by the Chainsaw crying, a few didn’t see any of the house for burying their faces in mom and dad’s shoulder, and a few kids tested their luck by going through two or three times. Every kid said they had a good time though!
Unfortunately, video of the haunted house didn’t turn out, but here is video from the rest of the day.
