Josh Pursell’s QuadX Rnd 4 race report

The track was really dusty and rutted out, so I did minimal laps just to memorize the track. I knew there was gunna be some good racing with the dual lines and different obstacles.

Sunday practice
They watered and groomed the track, so it made for some real nice lines. I felt good out there but noticed a bit of arm pump in my left arm toward the end of practice.

Moto 1
I got a great jump off the dirt start and came out 3rd behind Dustin Nelson and Troy Barker. On lap 2, I made a mistake and Billy Martin made a pass on me. A couple turns later Levi Shirley got around me too, putting me in 4th for the class. I then started to catch Billy. Then about half way through the moto, he lost his seat. Allowing me to pass him, I noticed I was slowly catching Troy. So I started to push even harder and made up a ton of ground on him. At the checkered he edged me out of 2nd giving me the last spot on the podium.

Moto 2
With a lot of anticipation I stalled the bike off the line. It took a few seconds to get the bike started and going again. By the end of the first lap I caught up to # 88. It took me a few laps to get him and move on to the next rider. I was fired up after getting that horrible start. I fought the fatigue, I was slowing getting and was gaining a lot of ground on Troy again. With about 3 or 4 laps to go Billy who was sitting in 2nd broke a chain going through the rythmn section putting Troy and myself in 2nd and 3rd again. Pushing even harder, I caught up to Troy with 2 laps to go. Then my bike stalled out again in a tight S curve section, allowing him to pull out a small gap. Once I got her fired up again, I was able to make a charge and catch back up to him with a little less then half a lap to go. Unable to get close enough to try for a pass, it looked like we would finish 2 and and 3rd for the 2nd moto. But on the last rythmn section Troy had a slight get off, and rolled his bike 30 feet from the finish line. allowing me to coast by for the 2nd spot. Turning around I helped him get his bike back on track and push it across the line for 3rd place.

With a 3-2 finishes that gave me 2nd overall for the day. My career best finish in this class. I’m extremely happy how the weekend went for me. I’ll be looking for a win at the next Rnd. I’d like to thank all my sponsors for helping me out, and allowing me to race this weekend.
